The history of the Castle of Josselin goes back to the beginning of the 11th century. In 1008, Guéthenoc, Viscount of Porhoët, Rohan and Guéméné, decides to build on this rock headland dominating the valley of Oust an urban enclosure, as well as a castle.
State of the castle at the time of Olivier de Clisson, model produced by Mr Jean-Pierre Bauchet.
In 1370, following an exchange with his cousin the count d' Alençon, Olivier de Clisson, Constable of France, becomes owner of Josselin. From the existing castle, Clisson makes build a true fortress, equipped with a very powerful keep and nine turns. It is in this vast sumptuously furnished residence that he will die in 1407.
